Sixteenth Century World Map

Urbano Monte (born 1544) was a scholar and avid map maker.  His major work is one of the first complete maps of the world  (circa 1590).  A full size version is now in the Rumsey collection at Stanford University.  It is viewed from the North Pole ( the United Nations logo style) rather than the more familiar Mercator projection. It was also digitized by our own David Rumsey and is available on line.  Click here for more details
