We welcome new members to the California Map Society from around the world. CMS was formed in 1978 as one of the first cartographic societies in the country and is a California non-profit public benefit corporation. CMS is a 501(c)(3) organization for federal tax purposes. We have nearly 200 members from California and around the world.
The Society has five membership grades: Student, Active, Retired, Patron, and Life Membership. All CMS Members receive the following benefits:
- two Newsletters / year
- a continually updated e-Directory of all Members
- full access to the private Members’ Area of the CMS website
- invitations to all Member Meetings and CMS Special Events
- local group meetings
- e-mails of upcoming events of interest to Members.
Active and Retired Members may elect to receive the CMS Newsletters in printed form as well as electronically at no additional cost. Patron and Life Members automatically receive printed CMS Newsletters and printed copies of new Occasional Papers. They are also recognized in the Newsletter and on our website. Life Members are additionally recognized with a commemorative plaque and permanent nametags for meeting wear. Participation of Student Members is encouraged by charging half price for registration at our twice yearly meetings.
